language is problematic for the businesses that hire the professional services of a sign shop. But the real concern should be the whole "language" of the sign. The whole "language" includes connecting the customer''s marketing objectives with the stage in the visual communication process. That connection is accomplished with not installing only the form and content of the graphics, but also the sign''s shape, color, texture, and form. All are the a elements of a sign''s "language." As a business-owner, you must identify clearly your desires for your banners and communicate that desire to your sign-maker. "Where do you want to locate the sign, and why do you want to locate it there?" "Why do you want to use those colors?" "Why that size?" Next, the audience must be defined. Figure out programmable just what appeals to YOUR customers rather than the famous "general public." The content of the sign cannot just boast its product; it should be convincing. Once identified, a specific group is easier to target and to convince. Once you have identified your goals, sort through them by ranking them in order of importance. One of the notable pioneers in this thermostat field was Mr. Ben Granath who originally worked at BRL and subsequently founded Susquehanna Instruments, a development company for blast transducers. This company is now a part of PCB Piezotronics. Photographs of two transducers, which resulted from Mr. Granath''s work, are provided as Figure 4.In Figure 4A, the pencil probe, is obviously intended for sideon pressures. Its quartz acceleration compensated piezoelectric sensing element is built into the housing. The geometry of the contained piezoelectric element, as well as the velocity of the shock front of the blast wave passing over it, control its rise time. This transducer covers a pressure range extending to 1000 psi. The transducer in Figure 4B works on the principle of a pressure installing bar. Its sensing element is tourmaline, which is interfaced to an internal bar. The bar is acoustically impedancematched to the tourmaline, resulting in a 1.5-MHz resonant frequency for the transducer. This model transducer is used for reflected pressure measurements to 20,000 psi.
Light. Reference 8 also discusses light-sensitivity of silicon transducers. This is of interest because light-intensity increases with proximity to the air-blast. Silicon-diaphragm pressure transducers absorb short-wavelength electromagnetic radiation in the wavelength range between 3,000 to 10,000 A, most of which is in the visible spectrum. The temporary results are photoconduction as well as a photo diode effect in the junction isolation between the gages a and the bulk material. Reference 8 concludes, "flash sensitivities of silicon diaphragms vary widely from unit to unit, and it is rather easy to obtain a full-scale output from a flash of light."
